THE Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD) is pleased to announce that its Executive Director and Team Lead of the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), Mr Jare Ismahil Tiamiyu, has been selected as part of the Nigerian delegation to the African Youth SDGs Summit taking place in Accra, Ghana.
Tiamiyu, who is participating under the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) delegation, will speak on the OsunOpenLG Project and its innovative approach to strengthening citizen participation, transparency and accountability in local government administration in Osun State.
His presentation will highlight how the project is redefining public engagement in local governance by empowering citizens with information, promoting access to local government data and creating platforms for constructive engagement between communities and public officials.
The session will also showcase lessons from Osun State on leveraging civic technology, citizen mobilisation and social accountability mechanisms to deepen democratic governance at the grassroots level.
A major highlight of his presentation will be the showcasing of Amòye, the artificial intelligence-powered civic-tech platform developed under the OsunOpenLG Project and launched in October 2025.
Amòye is Nigeria’s first AI chatbot dedicated to open government, citizen engagement and local government administration, providing citizens with accessible information on local governance, public institutions, civic rights and accountability mechanisms.
Tiamiyu will demonstrate how the platform is leveraging artificial intelligence to bridge information gaps between citizens and government institutions, simplify access to governance-related information and encourage greater public participation in democratic processes at the grassroots level. The presentation will further highlight the role of emerging technologies in strengthening transparency, expanding civic education and fostering responsive governance across African communities.
Implemented by IICSD, the OsunOpenLG Project has emerged as a leading civic engagement initiative focused on promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in local government administration. Through community outreach, public enlightenment campaigns, governance advocacy, transparency scorecards, citizen-led monitoring activities and accountability interventions, the project has continued to encourage greater public interest in local government affairs while fostering responsive governance across Osun State.
Amoye has also been upgraded to provide civic education on elections, simplifies electoral governing laws and supporting residents on necessary information.
The African Youth SDGs Summit brings together young leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, innovators and civil society actors from across Africa to exchange ideas, build partnerships and advance solutions towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the statement by Sodiq Yusuf, IICSD Communications officer, Tiamiyu’s participation at the summit presents an important opportunity to share the successes, lessons and impact of the OsunOpenLG Project with a continental audience while contributing to broader conversations on youth leadership, democratic accountability, civic technology and sustainable development.
The organisation noted that his selection as part of the NYFF delegation reflects the growing recognition of youth-led governance initiatives and the important role young people continue to play in advancing transparency, civic participation and institutional accountability across Africa.
IICSD remains committed to promoting inclusive governance, strengthening citizen participation and supporting innovative solutions that enhance accountability, transparency and sustainable development at the grassroots.
