THE Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Ibrahim Gotan, says the state has been rated one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria following strategic policing under his leadership.
CP Gotan disclosed this during a press conference at the Police Command headquarters, Osogbo, on Monday while responding to calls for his redeployment.
“My sole intent is to implement the strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which is making every nook and cranny of this country safe and peaceful,” he said.
“On a final note, I will continue to discharge my statutory responsibilities to ensure Osun State remains the most peaceful state in the country. Assessments from both internal and external sources rated Osun among the most peaceful states in Nigeria,” the police Commissioner added.
According to him, the command recorded major successes in the past year through intelligence-led, community-oriented and visibility policing. These efforts led to the arrest and prosecution of suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists and vehicle-snatching syndicates.
He added that the command also recovered arms and ammunition, stolen vehicles, and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders and other security agencies across the state.
While acknowledging that crime has not been completely eradicated, CP Gotan said the frequency and severity had reduced through targeted operations, community cooperation and regular patrols.
On calls for his removal, the Commissioner said he respected residents’ right to agitate, noting that those benefiting from insecurity may feel threatened by the command’s professional policing.
“I am aware that some individuals have called for my redeployment out of Osun State. That is part of their fundamental rights. Having recorded the achievements within the period under review, my conscience is very clear on this,” he stated.
“You all know that in the course of crime prevention and doing my job professionally, some people are not happy and feel threatened, especially those benefiting from insecurity in the state,” Gotan said.
