THE world is just 4 days away. There are records yet to be broken since the inception of the tournament in 1930. Could this records be broken this year.
Here are some records.
1. No foreign coach has ever won the men’s FIFA World Cup with a national team of a different nationality.
Every one of the 21+ World Cup-winning managers (across 22 tournaments) has been a native of the country they led to victory. This holds true from the first edition in 1930 (Uruguay’s Alberto Suppici) through Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni in 2022.
2. Most goals in a single tournament: Just Fontaine (France) with 13 goals in 6 matches (1958). Modern Golden Boot winners typically score 5–8 goals; no one has come close in decades.
3. Youngest goalscorer: Pelé (Brazil) at 17 years, 239 days (vs. Wales, 1958). Extremely unlikely due to player development and squad selection norms.
4. Oldest player to appear: Essam El-Hadary (Egypt) at 45 years, 161 days (2018). Goalkeepers can push this, but it’s a high bar.
5. Oldest goalscorer: Roger Milla (Cameroon) at 42 years, 39 days (1994). Still stands strong.
6. Biggest margin of victory: Hungary 10–1 El Salvador (1982). Double-digit scores are rare in the modern era with better defenses and professionalism.
