Vigilantes Confronts Bandits over alleged invasion In Osun Community

Vigilantes and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested several suspected bandits allegedly posing as herders in Imesi-Ile, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The suspects were apprehended during a joint security operation carried out by members of the Imesi-Ile Security Committee and local vigilantes following reports of suspicious activities on farmlands within the community.

Residents had reportedly raised concerns over the presence of unidentified herders who allegedly stormed parts of the community’s farmlands on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, prompting an immediate response from local security operatives.

The operation was coordinated by the Chairman of the Imesi-Ile Security Committee, Chief Layi Abesin, alongside the committee’s Vice Chairman, Chief Muyiwa Oguntoye. During the exercise, security personnel arrested a number of suspects at Abese Farm in Imesi-Ile.

According to sources within the community, the suspects were allegedly operating under the guise of livestock grazing when they were intercepted by the security team.

The arrests come amid heightened security surveillance across Osun State following concerns over reports of bandit activities in some communities. While the Osun State Police Command has urged residents to disregard unverified reports of widespread bandit invasions, security agencies and local intelligence networks have continued efforts to identify and neutralise genuine security threats.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing profiling and interrogation as authorities seek to ascertain their identities, activities, and possible links to criminal networks operating within and outside the area.

Security officials have assured residents that measures are being intensified to safeguard lives and property, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to relevant authorities.
