ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT DISPELS RUMOUR OF KIDNAPPING IN AKURE

The Ondo State Government has become aware of false reports circulating on social media and messaging platforms alleging an incident of kidnapping in a school within Akure metropolis.

The Government categorically states that there is no record, report, or incident of kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure. All schools in the state capital are safe, open, and conducting academic activities without disruption.

Security agencies, including the Police, Amotekun Corps, and DSS, have verified all school environments in Akure and confirmed normalcy. The Government, in collaboration with school authorities and parents, has maintained strict security protocols across all schools to ensure the safety of pupils and students at all times.

We urge members of the public, especially parents and guardians, to disregard the fake news and refrain from sharing unverified information that is capable of causing panic and anxiety.

The safety of our children and teachers remains a top priority for the Aiyedatiwa administration. We encourage anyone with genuine security concerns to report directly to the nearest police or Amotekun station/post.

PRESS STATEMENT:
ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT REASSURES PARENTS OF SCHOOL SAFETY, CALLS FOR CALM

The attention of the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has been drawn to the anxiety among parents and guardians, which has unfortunately led to some panic withdrawals of students from schools in certain areas due to rumors of insecurity.

The State Government wishes to categorically assure all parents, guardians, and the general public that our schools remain safe, secure, and conducive for learning. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.

In response to contemporary security challenges, the State Government, in perfect synergy with conventional security agencies and local enforcement architectures, has already deployed robust security measures across all public and private schools. These proactive steps ensure that our pupils, students, and teachers are thoroughly protected.

The Government deeply appreciates the natural concern of parents for the safety of their children. However, yielding to unverified rumors and disrupting the academic calendar by withdrawing children from school only plays into the hands of mischief-makers.

We appeal to parents to remain calm, maintain regular school attendance for their children, and rely only on official government channels for information.

Furthermore, members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around school communities to the nearest security formation.

The Ondo State Government remains unyieldingly committed to safeguarding the lives and futures of our children. School activities continue as scheduled, and our commitment to an uninterrupted, safe academic calendar remains absolute.

Prof Igbekele Ajibefun
Hon. Commissioner for Education.
