THE Osun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two policemen along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road in the Oogi community.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the development while speaking on Thursday.
Ojelabi said the deceased operatives, identified simply as Kehinde and Tobi, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were struck by a Lexus car on Wednesday in Oogi town.
According to him, “The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle involved in the crash.
“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. A Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved.”
He further stated that the police had recovered both the Lexus car and the motorcycle involved in the accident and taken them into custody for investigation.
“We have launched a probe into the accident, and we are tracking the driver of the car. The vehicle and motorcycle involved have been recovered and taken to our station,” he added.
The police spokesperson also disclosed that one of the deceased officers had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Ojelabi said the command had commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing driver.
