Girlfriend learning how to drive crashes into building, three siblings killed

Tragedy struck in the Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after a learner driver allegedly crashed into a residential building, killing three children from the same family.

The grieving mother, identified as Amarachi Promise Esomonu, has since called for justice over the death of her children in the incident which occurred on May 15.

Residents said the accident happened when a man was allegedly teaching his girlfriend how to drive before the vehicle rammed into the family’s residence.

A source in the community disclosed that the deceased children were aged 10, four and three years respectively.

According to the resident, the children were inside the house when the vehicle suddenly lost control and crashed into the building.

“A young man was teaching his girlfriend how to drive when people suddenly started shouting. Before anyone could react, the vehicle rammed into the woman’s house and killed the three children,” the source said.

The incident has since thrown the area into mourning, with residents describing the development as heartbreaking.

In a viral video circulating online, the distraught mother was seen weeping as she lamented the loss of her children and accused those responsible of showing little concern over the tragedy.

“Every morning my alarm still rings for me to prepare my children for school, but they are no longer here,” she said tearfully.

She added that the pain of losing all three children had left her devastated.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

Agabe stated that the command was saddened by the incident, which she said had generated widespread grief across the state.

She noted that the police commissioner had extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that justice would be served.

“The Rivers State Police Command is deeply saddened by the tragic incident which claimed the lives of three children from the same family,” the statement read in part.

“The Commissioner of Police assures the family and members of the public that a thorough investigation has commenced and every necessary step will be taken to ensure justice is served in line with the law.”

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with investigators as inquiries into the incident continued.
