Osun Online Publishers, Amotekun Strengthen Ties Against Misinformation

The leadership of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Osun Amotekun Corps as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration in combating fake news, promoting credible reportage and supporting security architecture in Osun State.

The OOPA delegation, led by its Chairman, Abioye Tosin Lawrence, was received by the Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele.

Welcoming the media executives, the Amotekun Commander appreciated members of the association for their support in amplifying security-related activities and promoting responsible journalism in the state.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Omoyele described security service as a sacrifice-driven responsibility that requires discipline, loyalty and emotional resilience.

“We are trained to remain civil in whatever we do. The experience I have gathered over time has strengthened my dedication and loyalty to the state. We are born to make sacrifices for the rebirth and growth of Amotekun,” he stated.

The commander lamented the growing culture of misinformation and trial by social media, noting that rumours and propaganda often overshadow facts and due process.

“What drains one emotionally is living in a society where rumours take the place of evidence and social media assumes the role of the court. Investigations are concluded in private rooms, while conspiracies wear the garment of justice,” he said.

He maintained that despite challenges faced by the corps in recent times, the agency remained committed to justice, professionalism and the protection of lives and property across the state.

According to him, Amotekun personnel experienced low morale during the period of leadership challenges within the corps, adding that officers, however, remained calm and professional while awaiting the outcome of investigations and official procedures.

“Security is everybody’s business. Amotekun was established by law as a regional security outfit for the South-West. Our mandate is to protect lives and property without bias or segregation. We mobilise our men wherever duty calls,” he added.

Dr. Omoyele further described his invitation to Abuja during the period of scrutiny as part of the realities associated with security operations, stressing that overcoming such moments only reinforced his loyalty and commitment to Osun State.

Earlier, OOPA Chairman, Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence, commended the Amotekun Commander for his leadership qualities, vast security experience and contributions to public safety within and outside Nigeria.

Lawrence assured the security outfit of the association’s continuous partnership in promoting factual reportage and combating propaganda capable of undermining security efforts in the state.

He reaffirmed OOPA’s commitment to responsible journalism and constructive engagement with security agencies toward building a safer and more informed society.
