News Update
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to calls urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
He spoke after a group of supporters gathered at his residence in Maitama, Abuja on Thursday morning.
The supporters visited Jonathan’s home and repeatedly asked him to return to the presidential race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While addressing the crowd, the former president did not directly declare interest in the election but said he had heard their request and would consult widely before making any decision.
“You’re asking me to come and contest the next elections. Presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely. But the most important thing is in Nigeria, that the young people will have hope”, the former Nigerian leader said.
Jonathan also told the supporters that patriotism remained important for the growth of the country, adding that citizens who truly care about Nigeria must work toward building the nation instead of seeking personal gain alone.
