2027: Orolu Stakeholders Endorse Afolabi “Dosmart” For Irepodun/Orolu Seat, Demand Zoning for Equity

News Update

Political momentum appears to be gathering in favour of Hon. Olawale Wasiu Afolabi, popularly known as “Dosmart,” following his endorsement by key political stakeholders in Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State ahead of the 2027 State House of Assembly election.

In a joint resolution released on Wednesday, eight ward chairmen, 12 local government executives, and 140 ward executives declared Afolabi as their preferred candidate to represent the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly in 2027.

The endorsement, which also received the backing of the council vice-chairman, council secretary, and six councillors in Orolu Local Government, was contained in a statement addressed to the State Executive Council and other stakeholders within the Accord Party.

The stakeholders called on party leaders to uphold fairness, inclusivity, and internal democracy in the selection of candidates for the forthcoming election, warning against any attempt to impose candidates on party members.

According to the statement, the demand for Afolabi’s emergence is rooted in the need to ensure equity and balanced representation within the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency.

The group argued that while Irepodun Local Government has produced lawmakers for 16 years since the return to democracy in 1999, Orolu Local Government has held the seat for only 12 years.

The leaders maintained that zoning the ticket to Orolu Local Government would correct the existing imbalance and strengthen unity within the constituency.

Describing Afolabi as a grassroots politician with wide acceptance across Ifon-Osun and neighbouring communities, the stakeholders said his popularity among youths and elders, combined with his loyalty to party structures, makes him best suited to lead the party into the 2027 election.

They therefore appealed to party executives and influential stakeholders across the state to respect the collective decision of Orolu Local Government and support the zoning of the assembly ticket to the area.

The statement concluded with a renewed call for the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency seat to be zoned to Orolu Local Government and entrusted to Hon. Olawale Wasiu Afolabi (Dosmart) in the interest of justice, fairness, and political balance.
