Osun eyes FIFA certification for Osogbo stadium

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that the ongoing remodelling of Osogbo Stadium will meet international standards, including requirements set by FIFA, once completed.

According to a post by Adeleke’s Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on X on Monday, the governor made the remarks after a project review session on the stadium upgrade, where he also announced that the facility’s seating capacity will increase from 4,000 to 15,000 upon completion.

He said the project is designed not only to modernise the stadium but also to position Osun State as a destination for major sporting events.

“Upon completion, Osun will be qualified to host local and international events. Sports development will take a new tone,” Adeleke said. “Our young population will have a big supportive platform to develop their talents.”

Adeleke stressed that the involvement of both local and international technical experts was key to ensuring the project meets global benchmarks.

“In remodelling the stadium, we must satisfy global standards. I am happy with the involvement of local and international experts to ensure we meet FIFA and all associated standards. This is the way to go to finally integrate Osun into the mainstream of sports development in the country,” he said.

He added that the state government is also working to activate key sports development structures, including the Osun State Sports Trust Fund and the Osun State Sports Commission, to strengthen funding, governance, and long-term planning for the sector.

As a sport-loving governor, I am eager to ensure that the Osun Sport Trust Fund becomes operational. We are working around the clock to meet legal requirements and develop appropriate policy frameworks,” he said.

Adeleke further outlined his vision for a modernised sports system in Osun, with improved facilities, better workforce structures, and increased opportunities for athletes.

He also commended contractors handling the project for their progress so far, as well as the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, for his role in driving the initiative.
