FRSC calls for caution as rainy season sets in

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called on motorists across the country to reduce speed and exercise greater caution as the rainy season sets in, warning that wet roads and poor visibility significantly increase the risk of accidents.

The Corps, in a statement issued on Monday, stressed that speeding on slippery roads remains one of the leading causes of road crashes during this period.

The FRSC pleaded with drivers to always maintain a safe speed limit, keep a reasonable distance from other vehicles, and ensure their cars are in good condition before embarking on any journey.

The corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, noted that “rainfall often leads to reduced visibility, worn out road markings, and waterlogged sections, all of which can pose serious dangers to motorists if not properly managed”.

The agency also advised drivers to avoid sudden braking, use headlights appropriately, and stay focused while driving.

Mohammed rephrased the agency’s commitment to ensuring safer roads, noting that patrol teams have been deployed nationwide to monitor compliance and respond swiftly to emergencies.
