Fuji Musician Saheed Osupa sparks controversy over Juju remarks

Popular Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, has stirred widespread reactions after openly admitting to using voodoo as a means to achieve success.

The singer, whose real name is Saheed Okunola, made the statement during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran actor Fatai Odua, popularly known as Lalude, on March 30, 2026.

In a video that has since gone viral, Osupa was seen advising his backup singers to adopt spiritual means to improve their performance, suggesting it could help their memory and coordination on stage. He emphasized that such practices, in his view, were not inherently evil but rather a means of personal advancement.

Speaking further, the Fuji star revealed he had previously been advised to publicly deny engaging in such practices but chose not to. He maintained that his actions were not harmful, stressing that he had never used them for wrongdoing but simply as a tool for progress and a better life.

Osupa also disclosed that he regularly pays homage to Ifa, noting that while he may not fully understand the deity, he believes it deserves reverence. In a lighthearted remark, he questioned whether conventional medicine could bring success, arguing that life should be enjoyed with a level of comfort, even if one is not extremely wealthy.

He went on to claim that many people engage in similar practices, though often privately, while he chooses to be open about his beliefs. He dismissed claims that he relies solely on religious texts, describing such assertions as untrue.

The comments have since drawn criticism, particularly from Islamic clerics and followers who expressed disappointment over his stance. Some religious figures urged him to abandon such practices, attributing his success instead to divine grace.

One cleric advised the singer to return to God, stating that his fame and wealth were not a result of voodoo practices. Others questioned his religious standing, arguing that his profession and actions contradict Islamic teachings.

In response to the backlash, Osupa defended himself, stating that he holds respect for both Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad, while criticizing what he described as insincere religious practices among some individuals.

Despite the controversy, the Fuji star has neither withdrawn nor clarified his earlier statement, maintaining his position while continuing to attract public debate.
