The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, to 72 years imprisonment over a N868.46 million fraud.
Nwabuoku was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on charges bordering on money laundering.
The EFCC, in a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, described the conviction as a significant step in its efforts to ensure accountability and deter financial crimes in the public sector.

“The former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, who was prosecuted by the EFCC at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for money laundering involving N868.46 million has been convicted and sentenced to jail for 72 years,” EFCC wrote.
The anti-graft agency said the offences involved the diversion and concealment of public funds amounting to over N868 million.
The court found him guilty after evaluating evidence presented by the prosecution, which detailed how the funds were allegedly laundered through multiple transactions.

The sentence, which totals 72 years, reflects the cumulative penalties for the counts on which he was convicted.
