Gridlock in Gwagwalada Leaves Commuters Stranded for Hours

Residents and commuters in Gwagwalada have raised concerns over persistent traffic congestion that has reportedly left many stranded for hours in recent days.

According to eyewitness accounts shared on social media, the gridlock has been ongoing for at least three days, with little or no intervention from relevant authorities. One commuter narrated that after arriving in the area around 5 p.m., traffic remained completely stalled as late as 9 p.m., with vehicles unable to move.

The situation has sparked frustration among residents, many of whom expressed worry over the potential consequences of such prolonged delays. Some noted that the congestion could pose serious risks, particularly in emergency situations where individuals may require urgent medical attention.

“This has been happening repeatedly, and nothing is being done about it,” a resident lamented, adding that the lack of response from authorities has worsened the hardship faced by road users.

Gwagwalada, a major satellite town within the Federal Capital Territory, serves as a key transit route for commuters traveling between the city center and surrounding areas. The recurring traffic gridlock has therefore disrupted daily activities, affecting students, workers, and business owners alike.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the congestion remains unclear, and officials have yet to issue a formal statement addressing the situation.
