Why Terrorists are getting desperate – FG

President Bola Tinubu has declared that terrorist groups operating in Nigeria are becoming increasingly desperate as sustained military pressure continues to weaken their operations across the country.

The president made the remark on Monday while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he reaffirmed his administration’s determination to safeguard the nation’s unity, peace and sovereignty.

Addressing the gathering, Tinubu said security agencies had intensified efforts against insurgent groups, leading to growing desperation among terrorists who are facing mounting losses.

“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated, they leave trails of blood in their wake. But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” the President said.

The president told the religious and traditional leaders that their roles in promoting peace and moral guidance within their communities remain vital to national stability.

Beyond the security situation, Tinubu also used the occasion to highlight what he described as progress in stabilising Nigeria’s economy since his administration assumed office.

“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. And all I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty. I can report that the economy has turned the corner.

“It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” the President said.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening critical sectors, particularly agriculture and education, as part of a broader strategy to build a more resilient economy and secure the country’s future.

He also urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring citizens that the government remains focused on building a safer and more prosperous nation.

Speaking at the event, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, thanked the president for bringing together leaders of the two major religions for the Ramadan fast-breaking, describing the gathering as a symbol of unity.

He offered prayers for peace, national stability and divine guidance for the country’s leadership.

Also speaking, Daniel Okoh assured the president of the church’s support for government efforts aimed at transforming the economy and strengthening national security.
