Man Went Blind While Writing Maths Textbook, Still Teaching Students Worldwide

A mathematics author who lost his sight while writing a textbook for senior secondary schools has turned his personal tragedy into a mission to inspire students around the world.

The educator, author of Transformation Mathematics for Senior Secondary Schools, revealed that he became blind during the process of writing the book. Despite the challenge, he says the experience has strengthened his determination to promote mathematics and help students overcome fear of the subject.

“If a blind man can solve mathematics easily, then you can do even better,” he told viewers on his online teaching platform, the Desirous Channel of the Blame Mathematics Wizard. The platform aims to help students globally understand mathematics in a simple and practical way.

The teacher said many students consider mathematics difficult or frightening, but he believes the subject is actually one of the simplest when approached with interest and enthusiasm.

“For those who have made themselves slaves of mathematics, this is the time to free yourselves,” he said, encouraging learners to “subjugate” the subject rather than fear it.

During a recent lesson, the educator explained the denary (decimal) number system, focusing on converting numbers from base five to base ten using the expansion of powers method.

Despite losing his sight, the author says nothing will stop him from contributing to mathematics education.

“It is quite pathetic that I lost my sight while writing this book,” he said. “But that will not hinder me from contributing to the development of mathematics for students around the globe.”
