Ondo’s security non negotiable – Aiyedatiwa

News Update

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of Ondo, says security of the state is non-negotiable, insisting that no society can prosper in an atmosphere of fear and no government can claim legitimacy without protecting lives and property.

Aiyedatiwa spoke on Wednesday during the passing-out parade and induction of 500 new operatives (batch 05, BR05) of the Ondo state security network agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, at the Arcade complex in Akure.

The governor described the ceremony as symbolic and historic, marking a key step in consolidating the state’s security architecture amid persistent threats in forests, farms, highways, and communities.

He said the newly inducted operatives, now transformed from civilians into disciplined guardians, had undergone rigorous, comprehensive training focused on physical endurance, tactical operations, intelligence gathering, inter-agency synergy, rules of engagement, human rights, rule of law, and the Omoluabi ethos of integrity and restraint.

Aiyedatiwa added that Amotekun remains a community-rooted, intelligence-driven, and constitutionally aligned outfit designed to complement federal agencies like the police, the army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), rather than rival them.

“The BR05 represents not merely an addition in numbers but an upgrade in capacity, a reinforcement of doctrine, and a strengthening of our collective resolve to secure every inch of Ondo State,” the governor said.

He warned that the corps’ strength lies in professional restraint, community trust, and adherence to ethical values, not brute force.

He charged the new operatives to exercise sound judgement, maintain discipline, and act strictly under the law, as any abuse of power would undermine public confidence.
