Nigerian army shoot student on way from burial escort

A student of NKST Secondary School in Sai, Katsina -Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, Tsavnav Gabriel, has reportedly been shot by personnel of the Nigerian Army.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when soldiers were said to be returning from Tse Jato, where they had escorted the body of a man allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

According to residents, the student was hit by a bullet during the movement of the troops through the community.

He was subsequently taken to a clinic in Sai, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Family sources say the victim’s household had earlier been displaced due to the ongoing security crisis in the area.

Residents are calling on the Nigerian Army to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and take responsibility where necessary.

The condition of the student was not immediately confirmed, but sympathisers have wished him a speedy recovery.

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP, Udeme Edet was not successful.
