Nigerian Student killed in South Africa

News Update

A 22-year-old Nigerian student from Plateau State, Isaac Satlat, has been reportedly shot dead in South Africa in what many Nigerians resident in the country believe is a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks targeting foreigners, especially Nigerians.

According to a Nigerian resident in the country, Charles Awuzie, who posted the sad news on his Facebook page on Thursday, Isaac whose father is a Christian Missionary in South Africa, was earlier reported to have been kidnapped while driving his father’s car in Moshongo Province outside of Pretoria.

Awuzie said the body of Isaac who was due to graduate next month with plans to move to Canada to advance his academic pursuit, was discovered two days later riddled with bullets.

Isaac’s murder is coming barely a week after another Nigerian national, Emeka Uzor, was reportedly shot dead during an anti-drug operation in Gauteng, a suburb of Johannesburg.

Another Nigerian based in the country also wrote about Isaac’s murder.

“Just four days after an innocent man Emeka Uzor was brutally gunned down by Xholani Khumalo’s team in South Africa, a 22-year-old Plateau State indigene, Isaac Satlat was kidnapped from his car and shot 12 times last night.

“Isaac Satlat’s body was found in Moshongo, Attridgeville, not far from Pretoria. Until his death, Isaac was a student at SA. He was supposed to graduate in a few weeks and head to Canada for further studies.

“Reports say his father has been hospitalized in Nigeria after his BP shot up over 230—no country in Africa hates fellow Africans like South Africa. The hatred of Nigerians in South Africa is such that no Nigerian should go there even if they offer you $100,000.

“He was brutally murdered with over 12 shots to his young body and left in a pool of his blood. His parents’ car which he was driving in was vandalised and according to Solomon Ashoms, his father’s blood pressure shot up to 230 when he received the news of what happened to his child.”
