Nigeria has been ranked the 36th most corrupt country globally in the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International.
According to the Leadership, Nigeria dropped from 140th position in 2024 to 142nd out of 182 countries assessed in 2025.
Despite the fall in its overall ranking, Nigeria retained its position as the 36th most corrupt country in the world — the same spot it occupied last year.
The country scored 26 points on the index and shared the ranking with Cameroon, Guatemala, Guinea, Kyrgyzstan and Papua New Guinea.
The Corruption Perceptions Index measures perceived levels of public-sector corruption on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being highly corrupt and 100 very clean.
Denmark emerged as the least corrupt country globally, followed by Finland, Singapore and New Zealand.
No African country made the top 10 cleanest nations worldwide.
Within Africa, Seychelles, Cabo Verde and Botswana ranked as the least corrupt countries on the continent.
