News Update
Concerned youths in Ondo State today took to the streets to protest what they described as an arbitrary hike in house rent, as well as the activities of house agents across the state.
The youths marched through major parts of Akure, the state capital, carrying placards with various inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs to express their frustration over the worsening housing situation.
They said the continuous increase in rent prices has pushed many young people to the brink, making decent accommodation increasingly unattainable.
According to the protesters, the situation is forcing some residents into homelessness, while others are compelled to live in overcrowded and unhealthy conditions just to survive.
As part of their demands, the protesters called on the state government to introduce a digital housing regulation app that would monitor and regulate the activities of landlords and agents.
They noted that such a platform could also serve as a reliable source of internally generated revenue (IGR) for the state.
