A Shari’a Court sitting in Danbare, Kano State, has referred a family dispute between a man and his father to the Court of Arbitration after the son accused his father of selling his house without his consent while he was in prison.
The complainant, Muhammad Shaddadu, told the court that his father, Malam Shaddadu, had previously bought two tricycles for his half-brothers. He recounted that tragedy struck when one of them was attacked and killed by criminals who also stole his tricycle.
Muhammad alleged that his father wrongly held him responsible for the incident, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. He said that though the court later cleared him of all charges, he returned home to find that his house had been sold by his father, who assumed he would not return.
When the charges were read, Malam Shaddadu denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Malam Munzali Idris Gwadabe, described the matter as a domestic dispute between a father and his son. He subsequently referred the case to the Court of Arbitration to allow both parties to seek reconciliation.
