How Comedian Sanku’s death sparks row over unpaid loan vehicle

News Update

Content creator Folorunsho Olayinka, popularly known as Finest, has stated that the comedian, Adetola Samad, aka Sanku, died in a loaned 2012 model Lexus RX 350 SUV, which was meant to be returned to the dealer in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, for a cheaper car.

According to Finest, who stood as the guarantor for the late comedian, the deceased had informed him of his decision to get the vehicle for N25,400,000.

In a receipt issued by JJ Motors Empire and Services Limited, which was dated June 5, 2025, and shared by the content creator during a TikTok livestream on Monday after his death sparked a row over the unpaid loan car, Sanku had only paid N7,000,000 as of the time of the purchase.

He said, “I was only a guarantor, it was because the car dealer knew me. I only helped him. I wasn’t the one who told him to come to Ilorin; he was the one who requested a driver, which I provided for him. After paying N7,000,000 to acquire the vehicle, he began paying in instalments until he had paid N12,280,000.

“So what will be my gain in ordering that the person who owed about N13 million, for whom I stood as guarantor, be killed? What will be my gain? I don’t even know the driver.

“The late Sanku is not someone I would be leaking his secrets to the public, even this one I said, it was because I was fingered in the cause of his death. I have all the voice notes of him appreciating me for being his guarantor.

“The day the accident happened, I sent my siblings and some of the guys on set with me to visit the scene. Even when they arrived at the hospital, they complained that they were not treated immediately. I was the one who sent my people money for their treatment.”

However, contradicting Finest’s claim, one of the late comedian’s friends, who craved anonymity because of the gravity of the issue, enunciated that Sanku was pressured to return the car for a Nigerian-used Toyota Venza because he could not complete the Lexus fee, leaving a balance of N2.3 million.

In a WhatsApp recording played to our correspondent on Tuesday, the late comedian was heard saying that he was repeatedly rung to return the car for a cheaper option (Venza), but his uncle, who is a policeman in Osogbo, told him not to go because they could trick him into collecting the car without replacing it as agreed.

This newspaper had reported that Sanku passed on September 2, 2025, in a fatal car accident along Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State.

His death was confirmed by actor Yemi Elesho on his social media pages.

Before his demise, Sanku had on June 6, 2025, posted on his TikTok page photographs of the Lexus car he bought with the caption, “Alhamdullilah for life, congratulations Adetola,” while tagging Finest as the car dealer.
