Police in Anambra State have arrested a 43-year-old man, Patrick Ojele, who allegedly pretended to be mentally unstable while secretly cultivating a marijuana farm for over two years in Awka.
The arrest was announced in a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ojele was apprehended by police officers on September 17 during a routine patrol along the Awka–Enugu Expressway.
He later led the officers to his hidden farm, where a large quantity of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa was recovered.
Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, stated that the arrest is part of the command’s new strategy to disrupt the supply chains of criminals by targeting drug dealers who support cultists and violent offenders.
Orutugu has directed that the suspect be handed over to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) for a thorough investigation to identify his buyers and dismantle his distribution network.
