Rivers: House of Assembly Issues Directive To Governor Fubara

THE Rivers State House of Assembly has directed Governor Siminialayi Fubara to submit the names of commissioner nominees for the reconstitution of the State Executive Council.

The lawmakers also asked him to present an appropriation bill that will guide spending for the rest of the year, following the end of the six-month emergency rule in the state.

The directive came on Thursday during plenary in Port Harcourt, where members moved and unanimously adopted a motion seeking a review of how funds were spent during the emergency period.

The Assembly last sat on March 12, a week before the emergency declaration.

They explained that several contracts were awarded and projects funded without legislative input, making it necessary for the Assembly to assess the financial records and restore full democratic processes.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule confirmed after the session that the Assembly would officially write to the governor to communicate its position.
