Former Ondo governorship candidate is dead

THE Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State election, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, is dead.

His personal assistant and media adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, passed away at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos.

The deceased was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as the President of WeAfrica Group. He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.

Describing him as a man of “unwavering integrity”, the family said he was an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, and community leader who lived a fulfilled and purposeful life.

“He is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced later,” the statement reads.
