THE Police Command in Kano state has assured residents of adequate security during Saturday’s by-elections in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday that security agencies were working jointly to ensure a peaceful exercise.
Bakori said clear operational orders had been issued to officers deployed to all polling units in the affected local government areas, with sufficient armed personnel mobilised to provide security before, during, and after the polls.
“We will maintain a visible presence at polling units to safeguard voters’ rights and prevent intimidation. Thuggery, violence, or any act capable of disrupting the election will not be tolerated,” he stated.
The commissioner urged political parties and candidates to conduct themselves peacefully, assuring law-abiding residents they could vote without fear.
He warned that anyone found violating electoral laws would be arrested and prosecuted.
