Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of two victims in separate incidents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this to journalists on Monday, noting that the arrests followed swift investigative efforts by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to the police chief, the first case was reported on July 13 by one Ayogu Kelvin of Yaba, who alleged that unidentified persons abducted his 16-year-old son.
The suspects reportedly demanded and received N2 million, along with a headset, a school bag, and an iPhone 12. Acting on the report, detectives tracked down and apprehended the suspects, aged between 22 and 26.
In a separate case, police operatives on August 1 arrested a prime suspect linked to the July 18 kidnapping of another victim at Ayetoro, Ijanikin.
The arrest took place in Ogijo, Ogun State. The gang allegedly dispossessed the victim of N5 million during the operation.
Recovered items from the suspects include a Toyota RAV4 SUV with registration number KWL 883 DL, a bulletproof vest, two vehicle number plates, three POS machines, and two security personnel identity cards.
The police also detained a woman believed to be the owner of the bank account used to receive the ransom payment.
CP Jimoh confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other members of the criminal network.
