News Update
THE People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to curb “anti-party activities” by its members.
The opposition party has warned members who have openly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term against continuing in such an act.
In a statement released on Friday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party said such endorsements amount to a breach of the party’s constitution and threaten its unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party reminded members of Section 10(6) of its constitution, which bars alignment with another political party in any way that undermines the PDP or its elected governments.
Without naming names, the statement made clear that those involved risk disciplinary action under Section 59(1) if they fail to retract their positions. The NWC described the actions as “detrimental” to the PDP’s image and warned that repeated public criticism of the party by its own members would not be tolerated.
In recent months, some prominent PDP figures, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike and several governors, publicly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Voice Air Media reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke and the PDP in Osun State recently endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
The party urged all members to close ranks and focus on preparations for its national convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
