The Organized Labour in Taraba State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has declared an indefinite strike to commence on Monday, August 11, 2025.
The decision, announced on Friday, in a joint statement signed by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman Comrade Abasu Sule, follows a resolution reached at a meeting of the Joint State Administrative Council held on August 6.
According to the statement, the strike is aimed at resisting what labour described as “illegality” allegedly being carried out by the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee.
The unions accused the committee of irregularities that had negatively impacted workers and insisted that their ultimatum had not been heeded by the state government.
“All workers, civil society organizations, and the general public are hereby put on notice to prepare adequately and stock their homes with necessary provisions,” the statement read.
The labour leaders directed all affiliate unions, branches, and units of the NLC and TUC to immediately form strike implementation committees within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
Mobilization for the strike will begin immediately, with further instructions to be issued in due course.
The statement urged workers and stakeholders to remain vigilant and united in the face of what it termed an assault on their rights and welfare.
