News Update
THE Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reportedly expelled former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The party also declared that he will not be allowed to take part in any of the party’s activities for the next 30 years.
According to Daily Independent, the decision was made known by the party’s leadership after it carried out an internal investigation into reports that El-Rufai claimed to be a member of the SDP without proper registration.
The party revealed that El-Rufai allegedly forged documents and inserted his name as “number 001” in the party’s register at Unguwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna North, even though checks showed he had not officially joined at the ward level.
The SDP said that El-Rufai’s actions caused confusion within the party, as his public statements led to some party members believing he had joined the SDP.
It was also discovered that he took photographs with the suspended national chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, and other officials, which the party says was done to create a false impression of his membership.
In addition, the party accused him of trying to push SDP into an unapproved political alliance, despite already showing support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Based on these issues, the party concluded that El-Rufai cannot be trusted with future involvement and declared a 30-year ban against him.
