JUST IN: Police condemn recent killings in Imo community vow to apprehend assailants

The Imo State Police Command has strongly condemned the gruesome attack carried out by yet to be identified gunmen at Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno, all in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA where it was reported that many lives were lost.

 

The assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, was described by the State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Dajuma as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.

 

A press statement made available to Journalists in Owerri by the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, informed that the Command has deployed adequate operational and intelligence assets to identify, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

 

He added that the Police Commissioner has personally led tactical unit for intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been put in place to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the area.

 

The Police Commissioner, while expressing heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.

 

He also extended his condolences to the bereaved and encouraged them to remain strong in the present situation.

 

The Command also used the medium to urge members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.

Reacting to the incident, a human rights group, Stand For Humanity Foundation, in a press statement by its founder Chidiebube Okeoma, condemned the killings describing it as barbaric.

 

He urged the security agencies to fastrack the process of arresting those behind the incident.

 

According to our correspondent, some locals who don’t want their names in print informed that most of the victims were shop owners and their customers who were having their free time enjoying the cozy air of the night.

 

It was further gathered that three yet to be identified gunmen on a motorbike stormed the place opening fire indiscriminately.
