News Update
THE Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away.
The revered monarch, who reigned for over six decades, joined his ancestors on Sunday, July 13, 2025, just hours after the announcement of the death of his longtime friend and Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
A reliable source close to the Awujale’s Palace in Ijebu-Ode and officials within the Ogun State Government confirmed the monarch’s death on Sunday.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers and a highly respected voice among Yoruba monarchs and across the country.
Details of the circumstances surrounding his death are still emerging, and official statements from the palace and state government are expected shortly.
