Osun Amotekun Secures Conviction Of Offender For Theft As Court Sentences Young Man For Theft

News Update

In a significant step toward enhancing community security and reinforcing the rule of law, the Osun State Security Network Agency, code named as Amotekun Corps, has successfully secured the conviction of Emmanuel Ivarim, a 23-year-old male from Plateau State, for offences related to theft and conspiracy. The judgment was delivered by His Worship, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni, sitting at Magistrate Court 2, Ilesa, under Charge No. MIL/201c/2025.

The case stemmed from a series of theft incidents that occurred in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, where several residents reported the loss of valuable household items, including gas cookers, multiple home theatre television sets, four (4) mobile phones, a Bajaj motorcycle, and other personal belongings. Prompt response and diligent investigation by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps led to the arrest of Emmanuel Ivarim, who was subsequently charged to court on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit felony and stealing.

During the court proceedings held on Monday, 1st July 2025, the defendant was arraigned and pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him. Representing the prosecution, Barrister Oyedele Akintayo of the Amotekun Corps presented the case facts before the court, detailing how the defendant conspired with unknown accomplices to carry out the coordinated thefts across multiple residences in the community.

The court adjourned the matter following the plea and facts presentation, reserving judgment for a later date. Upon resumption of the proceedings on Friday 4th July, the court delivered its ruling. In a well-reasoned judgment, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni found the defendant guilty on all four counts, affirming the weight of the evidence and the defendant’s own admission.

Exercising judicial discretion within the bounds of applicable legal provisions, Magistrate Ayeni sentenced Emmanuel Ivarim to one (1) year imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently, effectively amounting to a one-year custodial sentence.

The Amotekun Corps has welcomed the verdict as a victory for lawful order and community safety. The successful prosecution underscores the commitment of the security outfit to tackle crime at the grassroots level and work hand-in-hand with judicial authorities to ensure that perpetrators of criminal activities face the full weight of the law.

Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Chief (Dr) Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, expressed appreciation for the synergy between the Corps and the judiciary. He reiterated the Corps’ unwavering dedication to protecting the lives and property of citizens across Osun State. “This conviction is a clear message that criminality will not be tolerated in our communities,” he said. “We will continue to act swiftly and decisively against all forms of crime to safeguard peace and security in Osun.”

The Osun Amotekun Corps further encourages residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons to relevant authorities. Public cooperation, the Corps maintains, is a crucial pillar in maintaining lasting safety and security within the state.
