BREAKING: Elon Musk’s X loses CEO amid controversy

Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has resigned from her position after two years.

Yaccarino announced her resignation on Wednesday without specifying a reason for her departure.

She expressed gratitude to Musk for entrusting her with the responsibility of protecting free speech and transforming X into the “Everything App”.

The former CEO who announced her resignation on X, wrote: “When #elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.

“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

She added: “I’m incredibly proud of the X team, the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.

“We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritise the safety of our users, especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence.

“This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform.

“Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with #xai”

Yaccarino’s exit is coming amid controversy surrounding X’s AI chatbot, Grok, which recently posted antisemitic content, including references to Hitler, prompting its temporary shutdown. And there are speculations that the incident may have influenced her decision to step down, although she did not provide an official reason.

Reacting to Yaccarino’s announcement, Musk merely responded with a brief “Thank you for your contributions”.

Yacarrino is credited to have during her tenure, played a crucial role in luring back major advertisers who had jumped ship after Musk’s acquisition, including Apple, Comcast, Disney, and IBM.

Under her leadership, she  focused on ensuring user safety, especially for children, and implemented measures to restore advertiser confidence. while she held sway at X, the platform introduced groundbreaking features like Community Notes.
