June 12: Organizers List Venues For Fresh Nationwide Protests

News Update

THE Take It Back Movement has announced plans to stage protests across Nigeria on June 12.

The aim of the protest is to call attention to the growing hardship, rising insecurity, and alleged suppression of citizens’ rights under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

The protests are set to take place in over 20 cities across all regions of the country.

According to the organisers, locations include Eagle Square in Abuja, four areas in Lagos—Badagry, Maryland, Agbara, and Toll Gate—as well as key junctions and roundabouts in cities like Akure, Benin, Warri, Ibadan, Yola, Osogbo, and Maiduguri.

Protesters are expected to gather as early as 7:00 or 8:00 am, depending on the location.

The group explained that June 12 was chosen for the demonstration to remind the government of its duty to protect the lives and well-being of the people.

It said that the current administration has failed to deliver on that duty, pointing to worsening living conditions and a surge in violence across the country.

Referencing a human rights report, the group claimed that over 10,000 Nigerians have died due to insecurity since Tinubu assumed office.

It also pointed to mass displacement in states like Benue and Plateau, where tens of thousands of people have been forced from their homes due to violent attacks.

These incidents, the group argued, show a lack of action from the federal government.

Apart from insecurity, the movement accused the government of shutting down free speech and silencing those who speak out.

It said critics are being targeted and opposition voices are being pushed out of public space.

Organisers of the protest urged law enforcement agencies to allow the demonstrations to proceed peacefully and to protect citizens exercising their right to protest.

They warned against any attempt to intimidate or harm participants, insisting that the Constitution gives all Nigerians the freedom to speak out and demand better governance.

The Take It Back Movement is calling on Nigerians to use the protest to make their voices heard and to push for changes they believe are necessary for the country’s future.
