Students sit for WAEC exam at night

WASSCE students sit for examination in darkness without power supply

A disturbing scene has emerged where candidates sitting for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination were sitting for their English Language examination late at night without electricity, using lanterns and mobile phone flashlights.

The situation was brought to light by a user, Omolomo, who identifies as #Omolomo_o, who shared pictures and videos on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, showing students sitting for examination in near-total darkness.

Sharing videos and pictures he wrote, “This is a school WAEC centre in Nigeria currently, they’re writing WAEC right now.

“It is 9:42pm and students are forced to use lamps to write their English WAEC exam in total darkness.”

In follow-up posts, he added, “Another school right now, there’s no light oo #NigEducation what is happening??

“This is a live picture from another school. I’m not faking it up, it’s 9:45pm, students are writing English WAEC exam in this condition .

“This is in Delta State. It is 9:46pm

“Chaaai, this is our country Nigeria, This is an exam hall currently”

Photos and videos from various schools show students bent over desks, huddled around torches, lamps, or phone flashlights.

The poor lighting conditions sparked immediate outrage online over the deteriorating state of education infrastructure in the country.

X users from different parts of Nigeria corroborated the claims, revealing this was not an isolated incident.

A user, Festus Oluwafemi who identifies as #a_phezt reacting under the post said, “This is absolutely frustrating… Just left school some minutes ago. Something is wrong with Nigeria education…

“We started exam around 2:30pm due to some talk about question leak out,.. “They brought the second (essay) part exactly 6:58pm…. What a day.”

Another user, Big DawG who tweets as #@arooluwaseyi96 wrote, “Even here at Ilaro, it is the same thing. The parent had to go and wait for their kids at the school premises.’

Colly who identifies as #marycollette__, added, “Lol. Here in Yenagoa too. My younger one just got into that house few minutes ago “

d who tweets as #stybijuu8 said, “It’s not just there, the English exam was delayed from what I hear from parents.”
