Nollywood actress and social media personality Monalisa Stephen has passed away following a brief illness, according to a statement released on Wednesday, May 14.
The death of the plus-sized actress, known for her outspoken nature and body positivity advocacy, was announced by Seun Oloketuyi, Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood, BON, via Instagram.
“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding,” Oloketuyi wrote.
He further disclosed that the information was confirmed by the late actress’s immediate younger sister.
“Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” he added.
Stephen, who had amassed a strong following on social media for her candid takes on body image and mental health, had previously spoken publicly about her struggles with various health challenges.
The actress reportedly died on the evening of Tuesday, 13 May, in Lagos.
