Ondo Govt Flags Off ICT Training For 500 Youths

In a bid to boost youth empowerment and digital capacity development, the Ondo State Government has commenced a four-week intensive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training program for 500 youths across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The training initiative, launched on Wednesday in Akure, is being executed in collaboration with the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME).

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, represented at the flag-off by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, said the program aligns with the administration’s developmental blueprint tagged OUR EASE, which emphasizes Education, Agriculture, and Skill Empowerment.

“Our administration is committed to revolutionary technological advancement and industrialisation,” Aiyedatiwa said. “This ICT training is part of our deliberate efforts to equip young people in Ondo State with globally relevant skills that make them employable, innovative, and self-reliant.”

The governor expressed gratitude to GIZ for its longstanding partnership with the state government and urged the trainees to maximize the opportunity to transform their future.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and Head of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Hon. Tomide Akinribido, disclosed that the training will cover key areas in ICT over four weeks. He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing youth-centered initiatives.

“We are grateful to Mr. Governor for his unwavering support for youth empowerment and digital innovation,” Akinribido said. “The skills gained from this program will place our young people at a competitive advantage in the global digital economy.”

Ayomikun Olugbode, representative of GIZ-ZME, noted that the organization’s collaboration with Ondo State has spanned over five years, describing the relationship as productive and impactful. He praised the state’s consistent commitment to youth development and capacity building.
