US Announces New Rules For Nigerian Visa Applicants

THE United States Embassy has issued new guidelines for Nigerian visa applicants, effective from April 22, 2025.

In a statement released Friday, the embassy stated that all applicants attending visa interviews in Lagos or Abuja must present a DS-160 form with a confirmation barcode beginning with “AA00” that matches the one used to schedule their appointment.

Applicants whose barcodes do not match will be denied entry into the consular section and disqualified from the interview. The embassy warned that previously used DS-160 forms cannot be reused. If errors are identified, corrections must be submitted through the AVITS portal no later than 10 days before the scheduled interview.

Additionally, applicants must attend their appointment at the consular location chosen during the DS-160 application process. Failure to comply will require rescheduling and potentially paying a new visa fee if the previous one has expired.

These changes are part of efforts to improve efficiency and minimize errors in visa processing.
