News Update

As part of its commitment to fostering vocational and entrepreneurial development among persons with disabilities (PWDs), Ekiti State Government, through the Office of Disability Affairs has announced the commencement of a vocational training programme for 120 PWDs across the 16/38 Local government areas of the state . This initiative aligns with the administration’s vision on shared prosperity and inclusion.

The vocational training will provide practical skills in various fields which include information and communication technology (ICT), tailoring & fashion design, hairdressing & cosmetology, shoemaking, catering & hospitality management, as well as entrepreneurship.

The training is scheduled to commence on March 31, 2025, at Ekiti State Skill Acquisition Centre, where participants will have access to modern facilities, experienced instructors, and a supportive learning atmosphere to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in today’s competitive economy.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Agboola Adetoun, stated:”Empowering persons with disabilities through vocational training is a vital investment in the future of our state. His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, envisions a future where PWDs are not just recipients of palliative measures but are given the skills and resources to become self-sufficient and independent. We encourage all eligible individuals to seize this opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to our economy.”

The programme will run in two batches over nine months, which will include 3-months industrial training. Upon completion, participants will receive empowerment kits and trade proficiency certificates to support their transition into self-employment or the workforce. The training programme is for both the residents and indigenes of Ekiti State, and local government attestation certificate may be required before the training begins, while accommodation will be provided for participants travelling outside their immediate area.
