Ifon-Ilobu crisis: Adeleke gives directive on holding camps for displaced persons

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate establishment of holding camps for people displaced by the conflict in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.

The directive, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Wednesday, followed the implementation of relief distribution efforts, which have begun through the palaces of the affected towns.

Governor Adeleke emphasised the need for urgent accommodation for the displaced persons.

“Now that the distribution of food and relief materials has commenced, I have directed the state emergency agency to proceed to set up camps for displaced people,” Governor Adeleke stated.

Each town is expected to have a designated camp, which may be located in town halls or other suitable venues. Security agencies will oversee the screening and transportation of displaced individuals to these facilities.

The Governor assured residents that the emergency agency would provide essential food items and other necessities while the situation stabilises. He also confirmed that the state had sought additional support from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

Governor Adeleke also praised security agencies for swiftly acting on his directive to identify and prosecute key instigators of the conflict.

“All the culprits must be brought to book. There must be accountability. I expect suspects to be charged to court as soon as possible,” he said.

The state government maintains its commitment to ensuring justice and preventing further escalations. Law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations in the crisis-hit towns.

Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring lasting peace in the state.

The 24-hour curfew imposed earlier remains in effect, with security forces tightening surveillance and patrols to prevent fresh violence.

Community leaders and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with security agencies to facilitate the peace process and ensure the safety of residents.

The Osun State Emergency Management Agency, it was gathered has continued to monitor the situation, working closely with local authorities to support affected individuals.
