No fewer than 2,500 members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State.
Governor Umar Namadi made this known during the Jigawa Citizens’ Engagement Program held in Babura Local Government Area on Sunday.
He attributed the increasing defection of opposition members to the APC’s commitment to the state’s development.
“Within just three days, we have received 2,503 new members into our party.
“This includes 553 defectors in Auyo, 750 in Kazaure, and today, we are welcoming 1,200 in Babura,” the governor stated.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the growing acceptance of the APC in Jigawa State reflected citizens’ satisfaction with his administration’s developmental efforts.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity and progress within the party, assuring that the APC-led government at all levels remained dedicated to improving the lives of Jigawa residents.
Speaking at the event, APC leader in Jigawa, Isa Gerawa, noted that the party had addressed its internal challenges and was focused on strengthening its structure.
“We have opened our doors to receive defectors from other parties. We assure them that they will be treated equally and will not regret joining the APC,” he said.
According to report, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi launched the commencement of the Jigawa State Government Citizen Engagement Programme, tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a”.
The program is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and dialogue between the government and the citizens.
