Christmas: Fayemi Tells Nigerians To Embrace Hope, Unity; Govt To Try New Solutions

News Update

Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate-past Governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has extended heartfelt Christmas and New Year wishes to Nigerians, urging them to remain hopeful and committed to building a better nation despite the challenges of the past year.

In his Christmas message, issued by his media office, Fayemi described the season as a time for hope, renewal, and reflection. He highlighted the importance of looking back on the country’s struggles and determining to forge ahead.

“The past year has tested our national resilience,” Fayemi noted. “We have confronted economic difficulties, security concerns, and social upheavals that have left many struggling to make ends meet. Yet, amid these challenges, the strength, resourcefulness, and enduring spirit of Nigerians have continued to shine brightly.”

He called on Nigerians to embrace the message of Christmas—love, compassion, and sacrifice—and draw inspiration from the sacrifices of Jesus Christ by becoming their brother’s keeper and supporting the vulnerable members of our communities.

Fayemi stated: “As we gather with loved ones this festive season, I urge all Nigerians not to lose faith in the possibility of a better tomorrow. Our nation’s history is replete with examples of how we have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles through unity and determination. This moment, though difficult, shall also pass.

‘’I call on federal and state governments to continue to place the welfare of our citizens at the epicentre of all policies and initiatives. When existing solutions fail to deliver the desired results, we must not shy away from exploring alternative approaches. Good governance demands courage and flexibility—the courage to acknowledge when strategies need adjustment and the flexibility to implement new solutions.

‘’The coming year presents us with an opportunity to reset and rebuild. While we cannot understate the magnitude of our current challenges, we must also not underestimate our capacity as a nation to overcome them. The path ahead requires bold leadership, innovative thinking, and most importantly, the active participation of all Nigerians in the national renewal.

‘’Let this festive season remind us of our shared humanity and common destiny. As we celebrate, let us remember those less fortunate and extend our hands of fellowship to them. The true spirit of Christmas—love, giving, and hope—should guide our interactions not just during this season but throughout the coming year.

‘’I wish all Nigerians a peaceful Christmas celebration and a New Year filled with hope and possibilities. May the coming year bring relief to our people and progress to our nation.”
