THE Federal Government has given the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) the go-ahead to recruit 3,927 new officers to enhance its operations and support the country’s economic growth.
The announcement of a major recruitment drive was made by the NCS as part of efforts to bridge gaps and improve trade facilitation, which is vital for growth and job creation.
According to the NCS, the approval to recruit more personnel was granted during the NCS’s 61st quarterly board meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Olawale Edun.
The meeting also highlighted the NCS’s remarkable performance in generating over N5 trillion by November 2024, which is a significant contribution to the government’s revenue target.
The NCS’s revenue generation efforts are expected to play a critical role in achieving the government’s N35 trillion revenue generation target for 2025.
The Customs’ accomplishment is attributed to the reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which have significantly improved its performance.
Edun commended the NCS for its pivotal role in boosting Nigeria’s economic recovery, saying, “The NCS has excelled in suppressing smuggling and fostering trade, crucial for growth and job creation.”
The NCS’s recruitment is expected to provide opportunities for young Nigerians to join the agency and contribute to the Customs’ mission of promoting economic growth and development.
The government has set an ambitious N49.7 trillion expenditure target for 2025, and the NCS’s recruitment drive is expected to support this goal.
