The Reds came into the game eight points clear of the champions.
They then took the lead after Cody Gakpo put away Mohamed Salah’s low cross.
Although City tried to fight back in the second half, Liverpool scored again.
Salah converted his penalty after Luis Diaz was fouled in the area by goalkeeper Ortega Moreno.
Arne Slot’s men now have 34 points at the top of the log.
They are nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea, who both beat West Ham and Aston Villa respectively this weekend.
