Bauchi gov presents 2025 budget to assembly

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday, presented a ₦465.855 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.

The proposed budget, an 18 per cent increase from the 2024 appropriation, reflects what the governor described as a response to reforms and inflationary trends impacting sectors across the country.

He noted that the 2024 budget had been implemented up to 80 per cent.

“The increase in the 2025 Appropriation Bill is attributed to reforms and the upward inflationary trends affecting all sectors in the federation,” Mohammed said.

The governor outlined allocations to key sectors, including, social sector -₦166.938 billion, targeting education, healthcare, and welfare and justice – ₦9.578 billion.

He stressed the importance of completing ongoing projects while initiating new ones to address critical needs and deliver immediate impact.

The governor added that the budget prioritises the implementation of the new minimum wage, contributory pension scheme, and adherence to budgetary guidelines.

“To ensure inclusivity, public hearings were conducted across the three senatorial zones, incorporating stakeholder inputs and adopting the community charter of demand to address grassroots needs,” Mohammed explained.

He urged the assembly to expedite the budget’s passage to facilitate the timely implementation of its programs and projects.

Speaker of the state assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, commended the executive for the timely submission of the budget proposal.

He assured the governor of swift consideration and approval to ensure the state’s continued development.
