An advocate of good governance, Chief Uba Michael, has called for more attention on girl-child education, saying it is one of the ways out of Nigeria’s problems.
Michael said this at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation, held in Abuja.
According to report, the US Department of State in a 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report, the government of Nigeria has not fully met the minimum standard for the elimination of trafficking but is making significant efforts to do so.
Chief Michael, who is the Managing Director of UBACLE Group, called on governments at all levels to prioritise the empowerment of girls and women as this would in turn reduce the level of poverty drastically.
He said, “I am delighted and honoured to associate with WOTCLEF, recognising the organisation’s enduring contributions in advocating for the girl-child, training and educating women and combating human trafficking.
“I firmly believe that empowering girls through education will solve 90% of our nation’s problems. I commit to unwavering advocacy for women’s rights until they attain their rightful status.
“I want to sincerely appreciate H.E Mrs Titi Atiku Abubakar for her unwavering commitment to the girl-child and also congratulate her on WOTCLEF 25 years anniversary.”
