“Enemies of Osun’s progress” – Civil Society Organizations Fire Critics Of Governor Adeleke

News Update

A coalition of civil society organizations has slammed critics of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing them of undermining the ongoing development efforts in the state.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance, in a statement released yesterday, signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Olalekan Jonhson, labeled the Governor’s harshest detractors as “enemies of Osun’s progress,” specifically calling out members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Comrade Olalekan stated that the recent wave of attacks on Adeleke was fueled by political bitterness rather than legitimate concerns for the state’s welfare.

He noted that these criticisms, often delivered in uncharitable terms, were aimed at destabilizing the Governor’s administration, which has been making strides in key areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“Those who continually malign Governor Adeleke are not just attacking his person; they are attacking the hopes and aspirations of Osun citizens who are eager for positive change,” Johnson said. He went on to emphasize that while constructive criticism is vital for a functioning democracy, the tone and intent of the opposition’s rhetoric suggest a desire to sabotage rather than improve governance.

Johnson criticized the Osun APC for its continued hostility, accusing the party of being unwilling to move beyond its electoral defeat almost two years ago. “Their obsession with attacking the Governor has done little to contribute to constructive political discourse in Osun. Instead, they remain mired in personal vendettas that sow discord,” he added.

Despite these attacks, the coalition noted that Governor Adeleke enjoys broad support from Osun residents both within the state and in the diaspora. Johnson praised the Governor’s administration for fostering a sense of hope and unity among the people, expressing confidence that this collective spirit would propel Osun toward achieving its developmental goals.

“The overwhelming support for Governor Adeleke is proof that the people of Osun are behind him and his vision for the state. The developmental strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure are clear indicators of the progress being made,” the coalition stated.

The group however urged opposition members to set aside partisan politics and engage in meaningful dialogue that prioritises the welfare of the people. “We must focus on building our state, not tearing down its leaders,” Johnson concluded.
